Broiler Chickens Spread Coronavirus

Reports say online on social media that it is the broiler chicken coronavirus (COVID19) that is spreading and it is fake news. These rumours were denied by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Scientists are now working to identify the animal that is the carrier of the virus that has killed over 1700 people and infected over 70,000 people worldwide.

It was surprising to hear the rumour that COVID-19 comes from broiler chicken, an official who is in the communication department of NCDC, Chukwuemeka Oguanuo, revealed.

As for now, what we know is that the majority of the cases are transmitted from human to human.

The virus, which they also know as 2019-nCoV, is a strain of coronavirus that has never been seen in humans before today.

Coronaviruses are a broad family of viruses, but only six (the new one would make it seven) are what experts know to have infected people.

The World Health Organization has advised that people should avoid “unprotected” contact with live animals and should cook meat and eggs really well and avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms as ways to protect themselves against COVID-19.
